Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a report on panel discussion on automatic control education for development. One aspect of the complex relationship between control theory and practical applications is the relative uniformity of the ways the former is taught and developed by researchers all over the world as contrasted with the ample variety of different situations that exist on the professional side, as a result of historical, cultural, economic, and political reasons. If the peculiar features of the practical control problems to be faced in developing countries subtract, in a sense, to their universal value, their impact in terms of regional development and technological advancement may be enormous, and when imbedded in the appropriate social economic and technological environment, they to be seen as important technical problems for which no readily cooked solution is likely to be offered by the however rich practical experience gained in sharply different general settings.
