Microwave tomography of high dielectric contrast objects. Gradient method in two-dimensional approach

A new reconstruction algorithm in the microwave tomography problem for objects with high contrast in dielectrical properties is proposed. The algorithm is based on approaches developed in an area of control optimization. Generalization and development of these approaches into the non-linear case leads to a refusal of the strong restriction on low contrast in microwave tomography. The algorithm was applied in a two-dimensional (2D) case under parabolic approximation. Successful image reconstruction of 2D mathematical models and physical phantoms placed into a 2D microwave tomographic system with high contrast in dielectric properties were demonstrated.
