Management of Teaching in a Complex Setting Steven Burrows

In the prevailing climate of declining public funding, demands for better teaching, and the need to deliver to increasingly diverse student cohorts, university schools and departments are increasingly challenged to maintain teaching quality and standards. The need for efficient delivery of course modules, without compromising such quality and standards, is paramount. Within such a context, the competing demands brought about by cohort diversity and multiple class groupings, possibly located within more than one campus, must be met, in order to attract student interest in courses, amidst an increasingly competitive tertiary educational environment. We present some strategies to accommodate such a complex teaching setting, describing teaching team organisation and associated processes that helped us to attain efficient and rewarding teaching outcomes.
