SCSR: A Novel MAC Protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Network

This paper presents a novel MAC protocol that employs combination of TDMA and power control schemes for ad hoc network. The collision resolution signaling protocol is modified and integrated in our protocol to eliminate the hidden terminals. The RTS/CTS handshake takes place at the maximum power to guarantee floor acquisition, while the SBT/DATA/ACK exchange takes place at the minimum power required for communication to realize parallelism in data transmission. The transmit power of sender is limited in order not to destroy the data transmission of the established sender-receiver pairs. The preliminary simulation results demonstrate that, with properly chosen parameters, our protocol works well and achieves considerably high throughput (near 290% of IEEE 802.11 in dense network) and acceptable
