A field experimentswas conducted at Varanasi during 1993–94 and 1994–95 to study the direct effect of four organic sources (Carpet waste, Farm yard manure, dhaincha green manure and moongbean green manure after one picking) with or without prilled urea on productivity of rice and its residual effect on lentil. Nitrogen application at full recommends dose (120 Kg/ha) through combination of carpet waste and prilled urea in 50:50 ratio, recorded maximum grain yield and straw yield and yield attributing character in rice. The residual effect of dhaincha green manuring + prilled urea (in 50:50 ratio) incorporating full recommended dose of nitrogen to preceding rice was more pronounced which reflected in terms of high grain and straw yield of succeeding lentil. Supplementation of 50%N through organic sources proved significantly superior over 100%N through chemical sources alone in increasing the productivity of rice-lentil cropping sequence.
