Creativity in the information technology curriculum proposal

The importance of creativity in the workplace has been long examined and debated. The discipline of Information Technology is particularly in need of creative people to solve the myriad of problems and opportunities faced in this field on a daily basis. Many other technology-oriented fields recognize the importance of creativity in their professions and some design their course curriculum models to include it. The IS 2002 Model Curriculum, for example, includes the topic of creativity in a number of its Body of Knowledge elements. This paper reviews the inclusion of creativity in the IS Model Curriculum and proposes that creativity is important enough to be included in the model curriculum for four-year degree Information Technology programs that is currently being developed. Suggestions as to how creativity might fit into an IT model curriculum are also discussed.
