This chapter explains the marketing mix and the components of the tourism product. It discusses the concept of the destination, the image and the price. It then describes the product life cycle and its possible application to tourism. It goes on to examine product feasibility covering marketing, operational and financial criteria. It then describes the transportation component of tourism covering air, sea and waterways, rail and roads. Various development concepts are then discussed including staging pointdareas, the cluster concept and resort complexes. Also included are the concepts of people seeking other people and the street itself as a part of the tourism product. The various facilities and services are then summarized and the chapter concludes with some project feasibility checklists; one from the government viewpoint and one from the private sector viewpoint.
