A Telephone Reassurance Service: A Natural Support System for the Elderly

As more and more older persons choose to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, home supports become increasingly significant in meeting the long-term needs of the elderly. This paper examines a low-technology, low-cost program involving a daily phone call that keeps the elderly in touch with the community. Though originally begun as an emergency service, it has been shown to have many other positive implications for the elderly person living alone, including a sense of security and well-being.
