A Comparison ofRedundant Inverter Topologiesto Improve Voltage SourceInverter Reliability

Forapplications sensitive toreliability typical voltage source inverters cannotalways meetthereliability requirements. Inthesecasessomemethodofredundancy isusedtoimprove systemreliability. Thispapercompares thereliability oftwo redundant voltage source inverter (VSI)circuit topologies toa typical voltage sourceinverter circuit. Theredundant circuits function normally after thefailure (open orshort) ofanysingle component including thecontroller, current andvoltage sensors, capacitors, IGBTsandpowerdiodes. Theparts countmethodof reliability comparison described inMIL-HDBK-217F isusedto compare thereliability functions forthe3circuit topologies.
