Oral-contraceptive use and bacteriuria in a community-based study.

The relationship between oral-contraceptive (OC) use and bacteriuria in a population-based cohort of 2390 women below age 50 was investigated. 5.6% of the 482 OC users and 4% of the 1908 nonusers were bacteriuric. The summary age-adjusted relative risk in users was 1.8 as compared with nonusers. After adjustment for possible confounding effects of age, parity, and weight, the users had a relative risk of 1.5.
