In the present paper, a novel design of patch with slots photo-etched on FR4 superstrate material for S-band applications, such as high-data-rate wireless broadband communication systems WiMax (3.3-3.6 GHz), fixed satellite service applications (3-4 GHz) and mobile maritime applications, is presented. With the aid of Vector Network Analyzer (Rohde and Schwarz, Germany-make ZVK model 1127.8651), the experimental results show impedance bandwidth of these antennas patch antenna 1 and 2 resonate at frequencies 3.65 GHz and 3.59 GHz and the bandwidths are 210 MHz and 270 MHz respectively, the Return Loss (RL) at these frequencies are –14.48 dB and –17.90 dB, with a moderate gain of 2.4 dB and 2.0 dB for the patch antenna 1 and patch antenna 2 respectively. The design also offers miniaturization of 14% with a directivity of 6.463 dB and 6.483 dB for the two antennas respectively. Details of the antenna design, geometry and results are presented and discussed.
