Cost comparison of MRF, CBF and EBF mid-height steel buildings in Bogotá

A number of mid-height steel buildings have been recently erected in Bogota (Colombia). Their seismic risk might be high, given the new current microzonation of Bogota and the lack of comprehensive
previous studies. This study is carried out on eighteen representative prototype buildings. These eighteen buildings are generated by combining the values of three parameters: span-length (6 and 8 m), number of floors (5, 10 and 15) and earthquake-resistant systems (moment-resistant frames MRF, concentricallybraced frames CBF, and eccentrically-braced frames with chevron braces EBF). In the framework of the Performance-Based Design, the seismic vulnerability of the buildings is assessed through 2-D pushover analyses. The structural properties of the buildings are compared, in terms of construction cost, to investigate the practical repercussions of the new regulation and of the considered parameters.
