Retirement Decision-Making: Gender Issues and Policy Implications

ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to compare the issues that influence the retirement decision-making process of mid-life and older men and women, including both psychosocial and personal concerns. We discuss economic, attitudinal and health aspects of aging, in light of retirement issues, and present strategies for change. Recommendations for continued policy research encompass new program designs for retirement planning modules and a greater focus on the specific issues and concerns facing older women.
