Study on the Method of Surveying Wiring Path

This study proposes a novel cable detection method to survey the electrical wiring in buildings and factories comprising several equipment with numerous cable connections. The wiring is implemented usually in conduits concealed inside the walls and beneath the floors to a massive extent with the cables of different types laid for hundreds of meters. Prior to the removal of a defective cable in a repair work, it is necessary to identify it correctly. A cable locator is used for the identification of a cable in a complex wiring system without damaging the healthy cables erroneously so that a circuit breaker would not trip due to a cable fault eventually. Cable locators are commercially available in the market and the detection method is classified into two types: electromagnetic induction and electrostatic induction. In this study, a suitable detection method is developed and demonstrated, and different types of cable locator are evaluated.
