Engineering methodology for the use of SOAs and CWDM transmission in the metro network environment

We investigate the OSNR performance of cascaded SOAs in CWDM metropolitan networks. SOA PDG and noise-figure requirements are determined by an engineering methodology based on careful receiver characterization. Performance is compared to conventional EDFA-amplified DWDM.
