A Model of GEANT4 for d ! np Reaction with an Effective Field Theory

We develop a new hadronic model for GEANT4 which is specialized for the disintegration of the deuteron by photons, d ! np. For the description of two-nucleon interac- tions, we employ an pionless effective field theory with dibaryon fields (dEFT). In spite of its simplicity, the theory has proven very effective and useful in the applications to various two- nucleon systems and processes at low energies. We apply the new model for GEANT4 (G4dEFT) to the calculation of total and differential cross sections in d ! np, and obtain good agreements to empirical data for a variety of observables. As an application of the model developed, we calculate the neutron yield from + CD2 process. G4dEFT predicts a peak for the neutron yield due to d ! np, but existing model of GEANT4 shows no peak structure and gives monotonic decrease of neutron yield as the photon energy increases.
