An Energy Enfficiengy Cooperative Transmission Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks

Existing cooperative schemes in which cluster head selects its neighboring intra-cluster nodes to collaboratively transmit its data can obtain higher energy efficiency in cluster-based wire-less sensor networks (WSNs), but it brings lower spectrum efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative transmission scheme based on code superposition in cluster-based WSNs. This scheme doesn’t select its neighboring intra-cluster nodes to aid in its transmission but selects its neighboring cluster heads to do so. Each partner transmits both local data and relayed data sent by its partners at the same time. Each partner can transmit the algebraic superposition of local data and relayed data, and then the distant data fusion center and its partners will interpret the superposition codeword. We analyze the energy consumption of the intra-cluster cooperative scheme and that of the proposed scheme with the same spectrum efficiency. Theoretical analyses and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can obtain higher energy efficiency than the existing cooperative scheme with the same spectrum efficiency.
