Energy Storage System (ESS) attracts a lot of attentions as one of building energy management systems. There are many applications of ESS. One of them is to decrease the energy consumption in peak time using ESS to prevent from blackout. In this study, an optimized ESS operation system using genetic algorithm (GA) is developed to decrease the cost of electricity. Hourly uses of energy(electricity) in a building is estimated by using EnergyPlus simulation and optimum charging and discharging schedule is determined using Genetic algorithm. To obtain optimum ESS capacity of given building, ROI and maximum profit in expectancy life were calculated by varying ESS capacity.
