COMPUTER LITERACY CURRICULUM FOR GRADES K-8

Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on computer literacy in schools, particularly in grades K-8. It presents a long-term strategy that addresses the problems of universal computer literacy. The chapter also summarizes an approach to achieving that vision, the reasons for that approach, and important problems encountered in this approach. There is a need to pursue several strategies simultaneously and a need for a few remarkable models. At the same time, there is a need for the short-term approaches that will affect the majority of people very quickly. The four main areas covered by the objectives of an ongoing project described in the chapter are about using computer programs, procedural thinking, computer applications, and the social implications of computer/communications systems.
