The invention discloses a method and device for controlling a RRC (radio resource control) connection status between UE (user equipment) and a network side. The method comprises the following steps: when the connection relation is existent between the UE and the network side, the UE judging that data traffic required for executing is nonexistent in time length corresponding to CDRX (connected state discontinuous reception) mode duration information issued by the network side according to an operating parameter of the UE, and disconnecting the RRC connection between the UE and the network side. Through the adoption of the technical scheme disclosed by the invention, when the moment of the data traffic required for executing is nonexistent in the CDRX mode duration issued by the network side, the UE can be switched to a DRX (discontinuous reception) mode from the CDRX mode by only performing simple signaling interaction between the UE and the network side, when the UE is in the DRX mode, the PDCCH (physical downlink control channel) monitoring and the signaling interaction with the network side are unnecessary, thereby effectively reducing the power consumption of the UE; the signaling interaction between the UE and the network side is reduced, and the network performance is improved.
