DSSS Transmission Technique to Joint Radar Sensing and Wireless Communications in V2V System

A ‘RadCom’ system allows for the combination of automotive radar sensing and wireless communication applications, while relying on a single hardware platform with a single transmission waveform. By using the joint millimeter-wave signals, both radar and communication applications could be operated simultaneously, thus granting the pervasive availability of both functions. This paper presents an end-to-end simulation of a complete RadCom system in order to assess the feasibility and efficiency of performing both radar and communication functions using the joint millimeter-wave in the context of Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) systems. We propose the use of 77 GHz radio frequency and show, through various simulations, its suitability for both applications. Through the evaluation of the auto-correlation function we optimized radar parameters between vehicles. For the communication function, we evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) using the pulse jamming method. Through simulations show that our system outperforms existing schemes.
