Design and study for an MHTGR Gas Turbine Power Plant

The combination of the direct gas turbine cycle with the modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor offers an attractive near-term energy option. A conceptual design for an modular gas turbine power plant based on the DOE 350 MWth prismatic MHTGR reactor with 850{degrees}C outlet temperature has been developed. This paper presents a description of the plant design. The system performance is analyzed and compared to that of the equivalent steam-cycle MHTGR. It is demonstrated that the MHTGR-GT has potential to offer both high system performance and lower cost than the MHTGR steam-cycle power plant.
