Social media has undoubtedly revolutionised the way we communicate and connect with today's global village. With over a billion users and still growing, it has helped stoke academic discussion and transformed conferences through virtual mass dissemination of information. However, a recent controversy has brought to light the growing conflicts between academia and industry in this new age of unrestricted online information exchange.
