A spacecraft fiber optic data system-radiation effects

A MIL-STD-1773 Fiber Optic Multiplex Data Bus System is being developed for space flight usage. The system includes integrated optoelectronics, optical fibers, couplers, and diodes. A summary of radiation test data on these components is presented. The SMall EXplorer (SMEX) program will be flying this system in June 1991. Application of radiation test data during the systems design process increases probability of mission success.<<ETX>>
