Co-evolutionary optimization design of a three-phase induction machine with external rotor

This paper presents a multi-objective co-evolutionary algorithm optimization applied for the design of a cooling fan induction machine with external rotor. The parameters of the induction machine obtained from the conventional design are presented at first. An optimization based on the game theory is applied in order to obtain a machine with improved characteristics. Three objective functions are defined in the optimization process: the full load torque, the machine mass and electrical efficiency. The advantages of this type of optimization are fully explained in the paper. The results of the optimal design show the reduction of the iron weight, and the improvement in the full load torque and efficiency of the motor. Few ideas regarding the usefulness of such an optimization for an induction machine are expressed in the conclusions of the paper.
