SEDATIVE PROPERTIES OF THE METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF CINNAMOMUM CECIDODAPHNE BARKS.

Traditionally this plant used as a various types of diseases. The current study was evaluated the in vivo sedative effect of the methanolic fraction of Cinnamomum Cecidodaphne. The sedative activity was tested by four method open field, hole cross, thiopental induced sleeping time, EPM test at 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg on the Swiss albino mice. For the comparing we used a standard drug thiopental sodium. We saw the locomotors activity increased and the open field, hole cross EPM test P<0.05 when orally administrated thiopental sodium mice was maximized onset of sleep. The present study revealed that the methanol fraction of the Cinnamomum Cecidodaphne barks has significant sedative properties that may lead to new drug development.
