INFLUENCE OF COMBINED SEWAGE INFLUENT ON SECONDARY CLARIFIERS OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE PLANTS

This poster describes the effects of natural and simulated stonn water events on the perfonnance of secondary clarifiers. Enhanced hydraulic loading had little effect on the effluent quality as long as the flow rate was relatively constant. Only when the hydraulic loading rapidly increased did the sludge blanket rise and the effluent solids content increase. Clearly, design of secondary clarifiers should be based not only on numeric values of hydraulic loading but on inflow dynamics as well.
