An adaptive finite element procedure for solidification problems

Abstract An adaptive mesh regeneration procedure for transient solidification problems has been presented in this paper. The method is based on the local minimum and maximum values of second derivatives of velocity and temperature fields. A numerical example of alloy solidification in a square enclosure is presented for demonstration. Extension to more complicated and odd-shaped problems is straight forward.
