Evaluation of continuous hyperplastic critical state (CHCS) model

A continuous hyperplastic critical state (CHCS) model was developed in a companion paper by Einav and Puzrin, within a unified hyperplastic/continuous-hyperplastic framework. This framework ensures that the laws of thermodynamics are always obeyed, and allows a possible modelling of continuous and abrupt yielding in the same package. The current paper briefly describes the CHCS model and presents its evaluation against triaxial test data for different stress paths, stress histories and loading conditions. Evaluation of the CHCS model against experimental data from two geotechnical boundary value problems is performed using the finite difference technique. The model is shown to provide reasonable simulations of the experimental data from both the lab tests and field measurements.
