Parallel simulation of flows in open channels

Abstract In this project, we apply our advanced free-surface flow solver to simulate flow in open channels at supercritical conditions. The finite element method is used to discretize the governing equations over fixed meshes. The finite element formulations have been implemented in parallel using message passing interface (MPI) libraries. Linear speed up performance is achieved. The computations are carried out for a case study involving flow in contraction channel at supercritical condition. The numerical results compare very well with experimental data.
