EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL STUDY ON TURRET MOORING SYSTEM FOR LARGE FPSO

Engineering efforts are being made by focusing on experimental and theoretical study of a turret mooring system for large FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel). Principal items in this study are: 1. Optimisation of turret and roller arrangement to minimise turret mooring line tensions and minimise roller reactions, 2. Computer simulation to evaluate mooring line tensions and dynamic vessel responses in waves, 3. Model basin experiments in various vessel and sea conditions to assess the computer simulation analysis, 4. Static and fatigue test of turret rollers, 5. Estimation of roller reactions by finite element analysis and structured model tests for calibration, 6. Three dimensional finite element analysis of the turret and supporting structure.
