X-rays and X-ray measuring instruments

This chapter aims to alert people of the possible range of ionizing radiation in radio transmitter devices, such as X-ray instruments, that give immediate reading of exposures. It illustrates a wide range of energy response equipment, their application, and their catalogues. It describes the nature of the radiation involved, the provisions for the safety of people, and provides some examples of X-rays generated from high power equipment. In addition, the chapter describes the types of instruments used for X-ray monitoring and measurements. The basis of X-rays in this type of instrument involves the determination of the amount of ionization caused in a gas-filled chamber. Electronic instruments may be subject to the high level interference in such tests. The chapter also discusses the main requirements for the demonstration of sensitivity over the appropriate energy range and portability.
