Performance analysis of multi-element antenna array systems under different processing techniques and fading correlation

We compare three available receiver processing schemes for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. We show that when the transmitter has full knowledge of the channel (closed-loop), all three processing schemes achieve the theoretical limit of the MIMO channel. We also compare the capacity performance of the schemes, with the theoretical capacity limit, when the transmitter is deprived of knowledge about the channel (open-loop). In addition, we investigate the effect of fading correlation on the MIMO channel capacity with respect to a previously measured set of fading correlation coefficients.
