Optical packet switching is a promising technique for improving the performance of all-optical networks. Key components are all-optical switches, the internal blocking of which can limit viability in asynchronous operation. A windowing technique is proposed, improving performance of internally blocking optical switches in asynchronous operation. Simulations confirm significant improvements.
