Single crystal growth of LiInS2

Abstract Single crystals of the ternary compound LiInS 2 were grown by directional solidification. Crystals grown on the wall of a graphite crucible contained some single crystal domains of about 5 × 4 × 4 mm in size. The crystals show a colorless or a light yellow colour. The easiest cleaving plane was the (001) face. Identification was carried out by X-ray diffraction. The energy band gap was estimated by photoluminescence at 2 K to be 3.26 eV.
