APPLICATIONS OF THE DCT

This chapter discusses applications of discrete cosine transform (DCT). It presents a wide spectrum of the applications of the DCT covering diverse disciplines. The chapter outlines the various DCT applications with a view that a novice can investigate deeply into the details of certain fields by complementing it with the extensive literature. In essence, the philosophy is based on a block diagram format rather than an in-depth description of the multitude of applications. The chapter discusses block diagrams and the basic principles of bandwidth compression.
