Boresight gain enhancement of planar stair‐like UWB monopole antenna

A novel configuration of a compact stair-like ultrawideband (UWB) planar monopole antenna is presented for improved boresight gain performance and pattern stability. The geometry of the basic antenna has been modified to include a gate-like ground plane structure which alleviates unwanted squinting effects in the gain pattern at higher frequencies. The boresight gain is then further enhanced through the addition of a stacked parasitic patch composed of a scaled copy of the basic stair-like geometry.
