Estimating Runoff in the Nile River Basin from Multi-Satellite Measurements

The availability of hydrologic components data is an important step for hydrological modeling and water resource management in the world, e.g., Runoff. Unfortunately, the in situ observations are very sparse globally, particularly in Africa. In this paper, Runoff variations in the Nile River Basin (NRB) estimated and investigated from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) from January 2003 to August 2016 based on water balance equation as well as other satellite measurements. The longtime, seasonal, and interannual variations of runoff are studied. Also, the monthly variations of runoff from GRACE are compared with runoff products from the MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), which shows a moderate coincidence with the runoff from the Global Land Data Assimilation Systems (GLDAS) and MERRA-2 with the correlation coefficient of 0.67 and 0.62, respectively.
