SYDEM: a new approach to computer-aided design of assemblies and assemblability testing

This paper proposes a new approach to computer-aided design of assemblies. This approach, named SYDEM: CIM through Systematic Decomposition of Manufacturing, is based on testing environmental assemblability of an assembly by decompositive assembly simulation in the design phase, and it was proven that decompositive assembly simulation is superior to compositive simulation. Our approach is applicable to other problems including assembly sequence generation and work cell design.
