Abstract This article identifies basic considerations that the documents librarian must keep in mind during the selection and acquisition of microformatted government publications. Essential elements to be considered during the selection process are enumerated as well as major sources/techniques to acquire microformatted government publications. The importance of utilizing the commercial vendors during the selection/acquisition process is emphasized. The article concludes by stressing the importance of the documents librarian assuming responsibility for developing a clear policy to select and acquire microformatted government publications.
