Feasibility of applying traditional differential into HEV as power-split device

A new type of power-split device(PSD)was provided for the compound coupled hybrid electric vehicle(HEV)to break through the limitation of Toyota hybrid system(THS)patented by Toyota company.The structure and working functions of the traditional level gear differential were studied and analyzed,and compared with the THS in the Prius HEV produced by Toyota company.It was found that it is feasible to apply the traditional differential as the PSD in the compound coupled HEV through modification and development.The ultimate feasibility was validated by simulations.
