Spectrophotometric Analysis of Multicomponent Dye Solutions which do not Obey Beer's Law

A method for computing the dye concentrations of a multidye solution from measured absorbances is described. This method is very effective for determining concentrations of dyes when the absorption of light does not follow Beer's law. It is based on an iterative procedure, using calibrated extinction functions to vary the extinction coefficients which are used for a least squares calculation. Examples are given for mixtures of basic dyes and acid dyes respectively.
