Modeling and characterizing the inter-turn short circuit fault in PMSM

In this paper, a dynamic model for PMSM with inter-turn fault is presented. FEM analysis is used for study the PMSM with inter-turn fault. Two methods for analytical calculation of parameters are presented. The first method widely used in literature computes the faulty inductances by applying a simple percentage on the parameters of healthy machine. The analytical expressions are established for determining the inductances of fault model taking into account the fault percentage and machine pole numbers. The presented parameter expressions are validated against FEM analysis. Finally, the proposed model is used for studying the machine behavior under fault condition and extracting the fault signatures.
