3D Evaluation and Analysis of Landslide Instability Mechanism of Reservoir Banks: A Case Study in the Three Gorges Reservoir

Aiming at the inducement mechanism problem of the landslide instability of reservoir banks, the 3D method is used to resolve it with an instance in the Three Gorges reservoir. First of all, by the detailed analysis to the internal and external conditions of the landslide, the critical factors to the stability were summarized, including the anterior part and the reservoir water effect. And then, the coefficients of stabilization were computed and evaluated using the 3D limit equilibrium method, for the anterior part and the whole under the rising and the rapid drawdown conditions of the reservoir level, respectively. The results indicate that the anterior part is stable at present, the effect of the level rise is poor, but the rapid drawdown will lower the stability of the landslide. These can offer powerful support to the monitor and control of the landslide.
