Production of singlet oxygen in the benzene oxygen photochemical system

Abstract Photochemical production of O 2 (1Δ g ) in benzene oxygen mixtures has been observed directly and is attributed to quenching of triplet benzene with a rate constant of 5 × 10 −11 cm 3 mol −1 sec −1 . The quenching of singlet benzene by oxygen is also discussed.
