Design considerations on stratospheric LTA platform

Purposes of this paper are to discuss major problems that may arise in designing and constructing an LTA stratospheric platform and in deploying it in the stratosphere. First, generic ground handling methods and a proposed oceanic passive recovery are discussed. Secondly, super light-weight pressurized membrane structures for the platforms are introduced together with tail fin structures. Thirdly, generic superheat problem is introduced and a super pressure structure is recommended, particularly for high-altitude missions. Finally, alternative power supply methods for the station-keeping stratospheric LTA platform are presented when it flies in wintertime in the polar regions. Microwave and laser beam power transmissions are expected as the most feasible methods of wireless power supply .
