Experimental and analytical investigations of vibration frequencies for centre-loaded beams

Abstract Analytical frequency predictions are verified through experimental investigations on built-in and cantilever beams carrying masses at their centres. Two analytical expressions are derived using eigenfunctions and Rayleigh's method, respectively. Results of frequencies obtained through different means are compared and discussed. The qualitative study presented allows one to quickly and accurately predict the vibration frequencies of centre-loaded beams for a large range of mass ratios.
