Generalized direct phase-coordinates control of inverter-interfaced distributed energy resources on fault ride through strategies

This paper presents two improvements concerning a newly-developed fault ride through (FRT) strategy based on the direct phase-coordinates approach for the distributed energy resources (DER). Taking into account the unsymmetrical three-phase voltage phasors at the point of common coupling, one improvement is on eliminating the double-frequency output power ripples through a generalized reference current calculation. Furthermore, the FRT strategy application scenario has been generalized from the single DER connection to the multiple DERs (multi-DER) integration. The other improvement is a cooperative fault current management scheme to minimize the total fault current contribution from the multi-DER. Simulation results are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of the generalized approach under the unbalanced fault condition.
