Muffler Structure Optimization Research of Digging Machine Based on CFD

A resistance muffler of digging machine was studied to reduce the pressure loss and optimize the structures according to the three main performances of muffler including insert loss, pressure loss and physical dimensions. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method with 3-Dimension models was used to analyze the pressure distribution in the muffler, and to explore the reasons of the unexpected pressure loss. The pressure loss of the muffler was predicted with this method for the structure modification. The optimization procedure of muffler design was brought forward with the performances improvement of a practical resistance muffler. The pressure loss, the insert loss and the structures of the muffler are verified to meet the demands of the digging machine after the corresponding optimization with the data of experiments and the simulations.
