A self-excitation impulse transmitter based on ring oscillator for UWB communication

This paper presents a new self-excitation impulse transmitter based on ring oscillator for UWB transmission. Comparing with the conventional method, the proposed transmitter has good features such as low cost, low complexity and tunable. This transmitter takes advantage of voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for carrier generation, while using the emission signal multiplied with the carrier to achieve the gated sinusoidal pulse. A new fast locking phase-lock loop (PLL) is used to control the oscillation frequency of the VCO. The whole circuit is composed of all-static circuit, leading to ultra-low power consumption. Based on HJ 0.18um CMOS technology, simulation results show that the proposed ring-control pulse transmitter can achieve a gated sinusoidal pulse while center frequency is 4.4GHz and −10dB bandwidth is more than 2GHz.
